This school year, the Paredes Gamecocks Football Team had an excellent season.  They won 1st Place in the Palmview Boys and Girls Club Contact Football category ages 9-10.  The team is made up of 3rd through 5th grade students from the campus.  They were coached by Roel de Hoyos assisted by Homer Munoz and Juan Villarreal.  The team began practicing since August and the season ended in November.  Athletes had the duties of practicing for football and excelling in academics.  The boys developed deep comradery for each other and are looking forward to continuing football participation in middle school and high school.  The boys were recognized in a school wide assembly on December 12, 2016 with Palmview High School drum line and Rubiettes leading the celebration.  Palmview High School head football coach Mage Requenez spoke to the student body about excelling in academics as a gateway for participation in athletics and performing arts.  When asked, Coach De Hoyos said he was fortunate to have worked with a great group of young boys, supportive parents, and the help of his wife, Xochitl Ortiz. He is looking forward to coaching another team next year.
