La Joya, TX - Years of dedication, perseverance, and passion for the game culminated in a memorable milestone Berenice Vargas - a La Joya High School soccer player who officially signed her letter of intent to continue her academic and athletic career at Jarvis Christian University.

Surrounded by family, friends, teammates, coaches, and supporters during a special ceremony held at the La Joya High School Library, Vargas celebrated the next chapter of her journey as she committed to competing at the collegiate level while pursuing a degree in Nursing.

Her signing represented more than an athletic achievement - it reflected years of hard work, resilience, and determination both on the soccer field and in the classroom. Throughout her high school career, Vargas established herself as a respected leader, standout athlete, and role model among her peers.

Vargas shared that her opportunity with Jarvis Christian University began after she submitted highlight videos to the program, which ultimately led to the university reaching out to express interest in recruiting her.

"Looking back on all the different chapters of my journey, each one came with its own challenges, but moments like this make everything worth it,” expressed Vargas. “It's an incredible feeling to know that all the hard work paid off."

She credited much of her growth and success to the coaches, teammates, and family members who supported her throughout her athletic career.

"My coaches constantly pushed me to improve and become a better player," Vargas said. "Whether we won or lost, they taught me to play with heart, stay confident, and keep moving forward. My parents have sacrificed so much to help me get to this point, and I am incredibly grateful for everything they have done for me."

Adding to the excitement of her collegiate commitment, Vargas will continue her soccer journey alongside one of her current teammates who is also attending Jarvis Christian University.

"I'm excited that one of my teammates will be joining me at Jarvis," she said. "Being able to continue playing together at the next level makes this opportunity even more special."

La Joya High School Head Girls Soccer Coach Eugenio Milla praised Vargas for her leadership, talent, and understanding of the game.

"Berenice has been an outstanding leader and a tremendous asset to our program," said Milla. "As a co-captain, she helped lead this team to success through her work ethic, determination, and ability to elevate those around her. She has a strong understanding of the game and exceptional talent on the field. I have no doubt she will make a positive impact at Jarvis Christian University, and we are incredibly proud of all she has accomplished."

Vargas' signing highlights the strength of La Joya High School's athletic programs and reflects La Joya ISD's ongoing commitment to developing student-athletes who are prepared to excel in college, career, and life.
